Fun Lipcolors for Summertime (or Anytime)

When it comes to our makeup routines, we Texas girls have to be mindful of the summer heat. Different seasons inspire different color palettes and even often require a different skin care regimen. For example, instead of relying on my go-to liquid foundation that I use in the cooler months, I just spot conceal during the summer so that there is less product on my face. Trying to follow your fall makeup routine will probably leave you feeling pretty uncomfortable in this triple-digit weather. Dark smoky eyes and plum lips can seem a bit much in our shorts and flip-flops. ;)

Here are my 3 favorite lip products that will keep you looking fresh and polished while having fun in the sun:

Laura Mercier is the first line that I ever fell in love with, and there's no question as to why. The quality of their products is top-notch, and their colors are always spot-on. Their Lip Glace in Champagne is gorgeous and complements most every woman.

I kid you not, this color looks good on EVERYONE. The packaging is super convenient, and a little - and I mean a little - goes a long way. Unlike a lot of glosses, this goes on smoothly and never feels gross and sticky. Peach is amazing year-round, and is one of my all-time favorite products.

You've no doubt heard of their Orgasm blush - it wins practically every beauty award year after year. They've put that magical color into cream form, and while $37 seems pretty steep, think of the possibilities! NARS Multiples never feel greasy or drying - it's the perfect consistency to apply as a highlight on your lips or as a blush, which I personally do. It blends like a dream and this tube will last you forever.

Happy coloring!

Jennifer West | MAKEUP artist

Hello, my sweets! After thoughtful consideration, I've decided to take this venture back to its roots (har har) and discontinue hair services. I love your hair; I really do. However, I also understand that sometimes, you love your personal stylist (I know I do) so much that you just can't bear the idea of someone else styling your hair on your wedding day. Your stylist would kill you, right? Right. Mine would. Seriously.

This is really a good thing, because as much as I love styling hair, I am a makeup artist - first and foremost. I am so excited to relinquish hair duties to the brilliant stylists of the world and to focus on my little niche in this big world.

Do what you love!

P.S. If you've booked either Jessica or me to do makeup AND hair - no worries. We're still good to go!

Welcome to Austin, April of Petalworks!

There is a fabulous new floral and event designer in Austin. Her name is April Neubold, and she is WONDERFUL. She contacted me a few weeks ago, as she needed a makeup artist for an upcoming headshot session. She wanted something "fresh, modern, [and] hip" - I think we nailed it with the bright eyes and rosy lip!

April is truly an artist in her own right. Her style tends to be more organic, which I love and appreciate more than I can express. I can tell you firsthand that her work is genius. When I opened the door to receive the arrangement (which she personally delivered!) that she created for my sister's birthday, I was floored. My sister was speechless. I really, really, really wish that she'd been around when I was planning my wedding. Her work is breathtaking, and she is professional and fun, to boot!

Check out April's website and say hello!

Thanks to Heather with Eclectic Images for the photo!

Katherine = Bride!

Katherine is actually married now, which just goes to show how overdue this post is. :) I loved working with Katherine and am sad that her wedding has come and gone. I sincerely hope for the opportunity to make her up on another occasion. She rules. Oh, and she made the bouquet in these pictures. Crafty! Remember what I said about how amazing her dress was? Am I right or am I right? If only I had a picture of her equally amazing shoes.

Thanks to the awesome Travis Gagnon for the photos:

I have eye envy.

Congrats, Katherine!
