Apart from makeup artistry, I have an enormous ENORMOUS passion for animal welfare. As a result, I spend a lot of time researching how to be the most responsible and best possible parent to my canine boys, Sebastian and Dimitri (See links under "Good Stuff" in the left-hand column). Responsible pet ownership is
the hot-button issue for me, much like religion and politics are for other people.
I all-too-often come across people and stories that make me lose my faith in humanity. I go from sad to frustrated to a raging madwoman when I hear about family pets who spend their entire lives outdoors,
(puppy) millers,
backyard breeders, animal abuse, etc. But then I will hear about how a dog's life was turned around - I will read about the volunteers who devote every moment of their free time rescuing, rehabilitating, fostering, and nurturing - giving so many animals a second chance at a wonderful life.
"At the age of 5 Dulcea lost both of her eyes and most of her teeth, but for the first time in her life she is happy and loved. Dulcea was released to rescue by a breeder who no longer wanted her. Her story is the most horrific we’ve known. Both of her eyes were badly damaged at the puppy mill. She was frightened and in pain. On the transport to release her to HUA the breeder dropped her. She ran away and could not be captured. She was on her own, blind and in pain in the worst of the December winter. For 13 days she was lost, cold, frightened and in extreme pain."
